Your Future

There are some important questions to ask when choosing any career path or field of study. When considering a career as a massage therapist, those same questions apply. The following questions will help you find out how a certificate from Myotherapy College of Utah can open up an exciting future for you.

Can I make a good living as a massage therapist?
Yes! Massage therapists who choose to work at a spa, medical clinic, or for any other massage employer can make up to $30-$45 dollars per hour. For licensed massage therapists who are willing to open their own massage business or private practice, hourly rates between $50 and $100 are commonplace. As with any profession, the more time and effort you are willing to put into your work, the more financially rewarding it can become. Massage therapists earn a comparable annual income when compared to other health care support workers. Today’s massage therapist charges an average of $58 for one hour of massage, earns an average wage of $39 an hour (including tips) for all massage related work, and earns an average annual income of $29,250 (including tips) providing 15 hours of massage work per week. (Statistics based on the US Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2004-2005 Occupational Outlook Handbook.)

Where can I work once I graduate from Myotherapy College?
Individuals new to the profession of massage therapy may not be aware of all the employment opportunities available to them once they have become licensed to work in this field. Some picture themselves working in a spa or other rest/relaxation-focused facility. However, there are many more opportunities for today’s massage professional. During recent years, more and more physicians have recommended therapeutic massage as an active healing tool for specific medical conditions. This has led to increasingly specialized massage practitioners and techniques—such as Orthopedic Massage or Cranio-Sacral Therapy—being employed in clinical (rather than spa) facilities. In addition to spa and medical clinic employment opportunities, private massage therapy practice is also open to the licensed massage professional. Taking this path will allow you to work part-time from home, or to open your own massage facility.
